We offer 3 beautiful secluded log cottages in a peaceful and private wilderness setting 12 Km. from the village of Baddeck – the beginning and end of the world famous Cabot Trail. Big Hill Retreat is centrally located in the heart of Cape Breton Island providing easy access to all of Cape Breton Islands' wonderful events and attractions.
Big Hill Retreat has 200 acres of private land to explore and there are many kilometers of walking trails for your enjoyment (- see the Trails Map). Off the property the surrounding countryside is uninhabited with many miles of of quiet country roads great for hiking, mountain biking or skiing.
Guests are invited to visit our family homestead which includes an active and awesome pottery studio (see Big Hill Pottery ) and organic garden where there are often extra vegetables for guests. Also two small ponds are available for swimming and fishing.
Here at Big Hill Retreat you can truly relax, reconnect with nature and savor the peace and quiet.

Our 3 cottages were built and hand crafted by Terry from trees grown and milled on our property. These fully equipped Log cabins are clean and comfortable with a grand view of the Cape Breton Highlands.
The Log Chalet :
The Log Chalet is our family sized cabin and sleeps 4 or 6. It's clean, solid and simple as a log cabin should be. The Chalet was hand built with logs cut from the property nearby.
It's fully equipped, full bath, electric or wood heat. The main bedroom downstairs has a double bed and upstairs there is a large loft with 2 futon beds.
Enjoy the beautiful wilderness view from the front deck. (There's no hint of civilization to be seen.) Gas BBQ on the deck and fire pit in the front yard.
